I feel that the power of television is the most powerfull tool to have to introduce people to your company!

Can I get some feedback to what other people think!

Thanks
Mark

Nope, Mark, just the mass-iest of the mass media. The most powerful tool is exactly what it was a thousand years before TV: word of mouth.

I Don't know if I could get my message to 20-30 million people daily by word of mouth.

That's why I said powerful not "mass." The thing about mass media is that it takes numerous times seeing an advert to influence someone. With word of mouth, the influence is almost built in. When your friend raves about a fantastic restaurant or a great new band or spellbinding new movie--or the opposite, someone where he never wants to eat again, a movie that sucked, or a concert that was a waste of money, you are far more likely to need only that single impression to be influenced.

TV has more reach, word of mouth has more power per impression.

Powerful (Adjective): able to exert a lot of influence and control over people and events.

Strong: with great physical or mental strength or force.

Effective: with the strength or qualities to be effective in producing a result.

Persuasive: able to produce a strong effect on people’s ideas or emotions.

As you see by the aforementioned definitions listed above; that yes the TV is a formidable tool to be utilized for mass communication. One reason is that it is involving most of the senses. And will be even better when they come out with Smellivision.

But as with any tool, it has limited uses and can not do everything to build your company.
Each has it’s place and time to be utilized.
Any good builder needs an array of tools for building anything of worth.
The knowledge and expertise to utilize those tools is what separates success from failure and the good from the great.

If you only use one tool, and think that you can build something of any significance, you need to look at your definition of worth!!

Try to name any company that has only used one of the medias to present their product / service. I can name many of them because they are out of business.

We as entrepreneurs are calculated risk takers, in business to make money. But we are multitalented to a degree. After we reach that level that we can not go further alone we must rely on others to perform with or for us. We add to our tool box!!

Just a thought!!

Mark,

This is definately my territory. I made commercials for years. This medium can bring an onslaught of new business or a trickle to none.
Heres an example of what not to do:

Paraphrased...

In the commercials (there are actually two like this) people need to get a group from point a to point b. .
They ponder the possibilities until one of them proclaims, "I used a company a few weeks ago... I can't remember the name."
Another person, "Yes, I remember that. What was their name?"
And it goes on like this for the whole commercial until the graphic for the company in question pops up.

This is a horrible commercial, it obviously stated that there is nothing memorable about this comapny, after all, no one can remember the name.

YES, certainly. Television is not only most powerful but effective tool for mass communication.

It needs to be utilised with responsibility and great caution.

If not, nothing can be worse than it too.

So to make it Effective or Deffective is one's choice who uses it.

When was the last time you thought your best friend (or even a stranger you met in the bookstore) was "cheesy"? Cheesy and infomercial go together hand in hand.

Again, I would make a distinction about what you're selling and what your budget is for selling it. And again, Lamar was right, creating that word of mouth buzz is difficult.

Mark,

If you are in an MLM, I suppose the answer to that question would be "Yes, it is really all about the money." However, if you are an entrepreneur who is not tied to an MLM, quality of service had better matter to you. Afterall, your reputation - not the reputation of an MLM - is on the line. While money is what pays the bills, it's customers who pay the money. If you want customers to bring you customers, you had better satisfy them with your products and services.
