When was the last time you thought your best friend (or even a stranger you met in the bookstore) was "cheesy"? Cheesy and infomercial go together hand in hand.
Again, I would make a distinction about what you're selling and what your budget is for selling it. And again, Lamar was right, creating that word of mouth buzz is difficult.
