1) My name is Lamar Morgan. Following my graduation from college, I went to work for the Sears South Florida Advertising Group in Miami, FL as a retail copywriter. But, I was told that to get ahead in the advertising world I had to go to either New York City, Chicago or Atlanta. Well, I chose Atlanta as it was closest to family. Unfortunately, I could not get the job I wanted. So, I went to night school at Emory University and took a few courses in cash management. In checking out Emory's Job Placement board, I saw a position was open for telephone sales at a firm called "Bear Stearns." I applied for the position and got it. Over the years, I moved up in the company from Retail to Institutional Equity to Fixed Income Institutional. In 1999, I left the company for personal reasons. In the summer of 2001, I moved to Northern California with the help of a doctor who I credit with saving my life.

Unfortunately, rural Northern California does not offer much in the way of opportunities unless you happen to sell real estate or build it. Right now, even that may not be an accurate statement as the mortgage market has had serious problems - so much so my former employer is gone from Wall Street. Plus, high gas prices are increasing the cost of everything out here.

2) What do you do when life gives you lemons? Answer - You make lemonade. In other words, you do whatever you can to survive. I had no choice but to bring something into my community that did not already exist and convince folks to buy into it. And, I did. That something is "FREE Wi-Fi hot spots" funded by splash page advertising. I had to create a win/win/win situation. For the public, that means having secure access to FREE Wi-Fi to check email, surf the Web and make VOIP phone calls. For the FREE Wi-Fi hot spot owner, that means an increase in customer traffic without having to pay for the Wi-Fi on a VPN (Virtual Private Network). For the small business splash page advertiser that means being able to advertise both at the hot spot and online through a Squidoo network of lens and groups, cost-effectively. 3) What have I learned? I have learned that there are caring people all over the world. I have also learned that there are uncaring people in my own backyard. However, it is the caring people who make life worthwhile. It is with caring people that the "business magic" happens. There is something truly dynamic when you can apply the giving principle to others first and find yourself rewarded as a result. However, this concept tends only to work with caring people. If you try it with uncaring people, you may find that your time gets wasted or worse. For that reason, I encourage caring people to connect with one another in small groups (what I call a "cluster").
